We’re coming up on Pocock’s 100 year anniversary in 2011, and we’ve been reflecting on what’s worked (and what hasn’t), the things that have provided real value to our clients, and what’s been pivotal in the enhancement of the sport of rowing. Pocock Racing Shells is the oldest boat builder in the world, and though most rowers don’t know it, many of the features of a modern day racing shell were first developed in our shop (like the ribless boat, the wing rigger, and the adjustable height oarlock to name a few).
All this philosophizing has led Bill to set down on paper a definition of who we are; a mission statement that sums up why we come to work every day and what we hope to achieve.
We feel pretty good about what he came up with. If you’re one of our current customers, we hope you agree. If you haven’t worked with us yet, this is what we believe. If it sounds like a company you’d like to build a relationship with, we’d love to talk.
For 100 years, the men and women who are Pocock Racing Shells have rowed, coached, designed, engineered, crafted, and serviced fine racing shells, with excellence being the final standard for all of our work.
We will be unwavering in our belief that work has value, that quality really matters, and that our work is industrial art.
The shells we craft will be the clear expression of our skill, care, and hard work.
We will continually seek an elegant balance among the competing demands of our work, our lives, and our community.
We will always look forward, expecting and welcoming innovation.
At the end of the day, we will be proud of our work.
We will be recognized for the unrelenting quality of every aspect of our work.
We, the owners, employees, customers, and friends, are all stakeholders in Pocock Racing Shells and this mission.
