October 27, 2006 - Pocock Racing Shells is
pleased to announce a partnership with Row
for the CureŽ in the fight against breast
cancer. Making a five-year commitment to
fight breast cancer, Pocock Racing Shells
has signed on to be a major sponsor of
Seattle's Row for the CureŽ benefiting the
Puget Sound Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen
Breast Cancer Foundation.
"Statistics tell us that over
40,000 women will die from breast cancer
this year," said Bill Tytus,
President of Pocock Racing Shells. "Everyone
that I know has had their life impacted in
some way by this terrible disease. Row for
the CureŽ is one way that we can do
something to protect our loved ones."
Proceeds from each Row for the CureŽ benefit
the local affiliate of the Susan G. Komen
Breast Cancer Foundation, where 75 percent
of the money raised stays in the community
for education and treatment of breast
cancer. The remaining 25 percent of monies
raised support national breast cancer
research projects.
Row for the CureŽ regattas, hosted by local
rowing clubs, are third-party fundraising
events benefiting local affiliates of the
Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Since the regatta's inception in 1994 on
Portland's Willamette River, Row for the
CureŽ has expanded to 11 U.S. cities,
raising more than $500,000 in the fight to
eradicate breast cancer as a life
threatening disease.
In the U.S., Portland, Seattle, Pullman
(Wash.), Philadelphia, San Diego, Salt Lake
City, Austin, Jacksonville, Grand Rapids,
Dayton and Westerville (Ohio) host Row for
the CureŽ regattas, while Frankfurt,
Germany, will host Europe's first Row for
the CureŽ this fall.
"Pocock Racing Shells has been a pioneer in
the sport of rowing and we are proud to be
associated with them," said Row for the
CureŽ founder Kathy Frederick. "By taking a
leadership role among businesses serving the
rowing community, Pocock Racing Shells'
commitment to fight breast cancer will help
raise awareness among rowers of the
life-saving importance of early detection."
