Last summer, we developed a new Sprint Style Fin and Rudder combination for our line of fours and eights. It is a complete redesign of our old racing fin, fabricated with a newly developed polyurethane resin that exhibits much higher strength and a more durable finish.

When we designed the new fin, we used our CNC machine to ensure a high tolerance, which allows for a superior fit between the fin, rudder and fin box. Previous fins and fin boxes were fabricated on hand-made fixtures, of much lower tolerance. We imagined a seamless integration, allowing for the new Sprint Style fin to work in older model fin boxes, but not the other way around. Also, we designed the new Sprint Style fin to work with an old model rudder.

Any Pocock boat built after June 15, 2011 will have been shipped with the newly designed fin box, and the Sprint Style Fin and Rudder combination. In an attempt to make the whole system more user-friendly, we have also designed a larger rudder which works with the existing fin. This will allow for better turning on rivers and head race courses. We will be discontinuing the Head Race Style Fin and Rudder as of November 10, 2012.

To identify a new Sprint Style Fin, locate the back end of the fin tang, and look for a rounded profile. This is the fin implemented in June, 2011. The now discontinued fin had a triangular back end of the fin tang.
